Tiny Steps - An Awkward Dance for Tuba Quartet

Instrumentation: 2 euphonium, 2 tuba
Tiny Steps is a tongue-in-cheek piece, meant to challenge big instruments. The title is a play on Coltrane's Giant Steps, and instructions for the limitation that I followed when writing. In the first half of the piece, each player can only change pitch by a half-step at a time. For the second half, the limitation changes by a half-step, which makes the players only able to change pitch by whole-steps.
Selected for performance at the Open Space Festival of New Music, 2015.

Through processing in Audacity, Logic, and Reaktor, I created the sounds heard in the piece. It is a sectional composition, using a distinct "glass-clink" as the signpost for each new section.
